What Causes Sciatica?

If someone has true sciatica, the nerve is in some way being inhibited from getting its signal down the leg, and it can be a disc pushing against the nerve up in the low back. Degeneration of the spine can be a cause.

Where the nerve comes off the spinal cord, that hole can start to get smaller, and that can start to pinch onto the nerve, and that’s through a degenerative process over time. At Noble Chiropractic, Dr. Noble often sees that a patient’s sciatic nerve is inflamed.

“So the nerve itself is inflamed, and when that happens, the signals don’t get through it. Inflammation causes heat, and heat won’t allow electricity to go through it, and symptoms arise,” he said.

Our Approach to treatment

Chiropractic care

Through chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Noble can help reduce nerve irritation that causes inflammation, muscle spasm, pain, and other sciatica-related symptoms.

Cold laser therapy

Using cold laser therapy helps get the inflammation down, and then gets those muscles to change their neurological pattern.

Anti-inflammatories

Taking an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen is also highly helpful.

Kinesio tape

Kinesiology tape can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and address spasms associated with sciatic nerve pain.

Icing at home

Applying ice reduces pain, decreases inflammation, and lessens muscle spasm.
